As part of Paris Infraweek, Bredin Prat organised a conference on the growing importance of private sector players in the revival of nuclear power in Europe.
This strategic industry, assumed primarily by the public sector, is attracting renewed interest in light of Europe’s decarbonization goals and energy sovereignty imperatives. Its revival will require the rapid deployment of new capacity, substantial financing, effective management of industrial risks, and significant innovation.
In this evolving context, private sector players — investors, manufacturers and technology providers — are set to have a more important role. Yet their involvement raises important questions: How can their economic objectives be reconciled with the unique characteristics of nuclear projects (risk allocation, long-term investment horizons, etc.)? What new legal and financial frameworks will facilitate their participation in the sector’s resurgence?
Bringing together industry, energy and finance, the debate on the role of private sector players will shed light on the future of the European nuclear model. More
