Although internal investigations are now seen by companies as an essential part of legal risk management, they are not governed by law and continue to be the subject of much debate among practitioners. The most recent example of this is the publication in June 2025 of a report by the Club des juristes entitled “Promoting internal investigations in France – A lever for competitiveness and judicial sovereignty,” which aims to respond to the new challenges raised by the practice of internal investigations through seven proposals. This provides an opportunity to take stock of the role of lawyers in the conduct of internal investigations. Read more
