Values and working method

02

Team work and multidisciplinary

When working on matters involving multiple practice areas, the firm places great emphasis on teamwork, whether in the same practice area or among lawyers from different practice areas.  Within each practice, associates work closely with partners without being assigned to a particular partner or group. Bredin Prat strives to ensure a flexible workflow in order to permit associates to work on an array of matters alongside different lawyers throughout their career.

Within most practices areas (tax, employment, competition, restructuring and insolvency and public law) Bredin Prat’s associates are involved in both transactional work as well as litigation. Generally, each team within the firm works both autonomously on their own projects, while also assisting the mergers and acquisitions team.

Our associates gain working experience in multiple practice areas and therefore develop extensive and unique cross-disciplinary skills. Within the corporate practice groups (i.e. mergers and acquisitions, private equity and capital markets), associates are exposed to a wide array of matters (i.e. acquisition of controlling stakes, public takeover bids, spin-offs, share capital increases, IPOs, LBOs, minority investments, corporate governance, restructurings, etc.) and also handle litigation which may arise out of the transactions on which they have worked.

In litigation and international arbitration, associates are given the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of matters in both practice groups.

This multidisciplinary approach also applies to our interns/trainees.

AUTONOMY, FLEXIBILITY, SOLIDARITY

The associates are not given billable hour targets, as the firm strives to achieve maximum working efficiency and produce high quality work.

The firm encourages autonomy, initiative and accountability.  Associates’ abilities to deal with certain matters or be in charge of a particular project are assessed in terms of talent as opposed to seniority.  This principle also applies to trainees who may be chosen to be highly involved in cases based on their ability to take initiative and work well independently as well as with a team.

The firm also ensures flexibility in regards to how the work is organized, notably by providing remote computer access.

Lastly, the firm is committed to upholding values of solidarity between associates and trainees, placing the utmost importance on teamwork and respect.
